What are Age/Sun Spots?
Age spots, also known as liver spots or solar lentigines, are flat, tan, brown, or black spots that typically develop on areas of the skin that have been exposed to the sun over time. These spots are most common in adults over the age of 50 but can also occur in younger individuals, particularly those with fair skin.
Age spots are generally harmless and do not require medical treatment, but they can be cosmetically bothersome.
Sun spots, also known as solar lentigines or liver spots, are flat, brown or tan patches of skin that develop as a result of prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. These spots typically appear on areas of the skin that are frequently exposed to the sun, such as the face, hands, arms, shoulders, and upper back. Sunspots are harmless and do not pose any health risks, but they can be cosmetically bothersome and may contribute to an aged appearance.

Treatments for Age/Sun Spots
While sun spots and age spots are generally harmless, it's essential to monitor them for any changes in size, shape, colour, or texture, as these may indicate skin cancer. Additionally, sun can be cosmetically treated to reduce their appearance:

Sun Protection: Preventing further sun damage is crucial for managing age/sun spots. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher and apply it generously to all sun-exposed areas, even on cloudy days.

Chemical Peels: Chemical peels use a solution to exfoliate the outer layer of skin, promoting cell turnover and reducing the appearance of age/sun spots.
